Global Location Number or International Location Code. A unique number assigned to addresses so that they can be uniquely identified worldwide. These international location codes can be used to identify legal, physical, or functional addresses. They reference computer files where company or address information can be found. They replace names and addresses and are particularly useful in automated processes because they allow information to flow without manual intervention. They should be used to identify addresses and trading partners in trade messages and EDI data warehouses and can identify a physical address in barcodes or provide relevant information for delivery or invoicing.
