The data interchange agreement is a contract by which persons establish the legal and technical terms for the use of electronic data interchange (EDI) in a business relationship. The agreement must govern, among other things, the language used for electronic data interchange, the form of messages, the rate of exchange, the handling of confirmations, the security of messages, recording and storage.
